CVC Words - Word Study Station

During our Word Study stations today I introduced a new game to the kids.  It's a CVC game but actually has more uses.  The kids had to choose a game mat that has a picture and three boxes.  I put all the cards in the middle of the table that had letters and pictures of other things.  The first thing I had them do was spell the word using the letter tiles.

After they spelled the word I had them look at the first letter the word started with.  They then had to find 3 pictures that started with the same letter.

They did AMAZING!!!  Even my lower students had fun looking through the pictures and letters looking for the right ones.

If you are interested in this item it is for sale in my TpT store here CVC Word Pack.

I'm going to make some more activities like this because the kids really did have a great time doing it!!!

4 Seasons Murals

In science we are learning about Spring and in Social Studies continuing to "work together."  So I decided to have the kids make season murals.  I split them into four groups and gave each group a large piece of bulletin board paper.

They were only allowed to use scissors and glue and had about 7-10 minutes at each table to create things that would go in each season.

They did a great job working together and made beautiful murals.  I'm going to save these for the end of the year when we start to take things off the walls and hang these back up. :)

Literacy & Math Stations

I have mentioned before that I LOVE Literacy and Math Stations!!!  It's probably my favorite part of the day.  Here are a few things that my kinders are doing this week:

Write the Room - They LOVE this activity!  It's probably my best seller on TpT as well.  Right now they are working on my April Rainy Day and Easter version. It should last us a couple weeks before I switch up for the Wild Animals before we go to the Zoo.

Syllable sorting for April - This is in my Games/Puzzles Station in the room.  They have to sort the pictures and then mark how many parts they hear.

Earth Day Time Puzzles - We just finished up our unit on Time so this is perfect for them to reinforce the skill.

Math Match - Addition and Subtraction.  This is a GREAT review of facts that I will keep up for the rest of the year.

CVC Match - they love to race to make the words - silly kids don't even know they are working their brains while playing :)

Almost done - I just have to share our adorable Max and Ruby's that we did last Friday and the Knuffle Bunny's that are up in the hall!  Aren't they adorable?!?

Story Boarding

We finished up our Non-Fiction books that I wrote about last week and are now starting to learn how to Story Board.  I heard about this a few years ago at a class I took.  Basically you give the kids a piece of paper and have them fold it so that there are 4 squares.  Then they have to quickly sketch 4 things that they have actually done in the past.  So here is my example (don't laugh at the drawings - I am no artist):
This is done the first day.  I had the kids do this and then share with various friends in the room about what they drew.

The next day they have to pick one of the pictures and break it down into 4 sequential events.  I'll post again about this so you can see how it goes.

The tricky part is that they have to be things that they actually remember doing so that they can write the personal narrative that is to come.
