I love Math Stations!

I started doing math stations last year after my school finally went to full day kindergarten.  I absolutely love them!  Recently I've made a big switch the 90% paperless stations as well - which I might love just as much.  Almost every station that I provide for the kids is laminated and also put into a protective sleeve and the kids use dry erase markers to write any answers or play any games!  This has made such a big difference and the kids are staying more on task!  Amazing!  I have 10 math stations and 2 stations are the computers, so I only have to plan for 8 stations.  We had a snow day last week and a couple assemblies so we are still finishing up some February stations. So here are the stations that we are currently doing:

This is my Math Match Addition Sentences - the kids have to sort the math problems under the correct answer and then they can record the answer on the sheet with a marker.

This is my February Skip Counting Station.  They sort the cards and then put them in order by 2's, 5's and 10's.  There is also a recording sheet.  Click the picture to go to the item.
This is a favorite in my room - It's by the incredible and very talented DeeDee Wills.  The kids roll 2 dice, add them up and circle the number.  The object is to get 3 in a row!  Click the picture to go to her store!
This is also from the same item from DeeDee Wills.  It's a counting match game with tens and ones.
And lastly also from DeeDee is a great game we've not named "Go Penguin" instead of "Go Fish"  The kids also like to play war with the various cards!

Next week we will finally get to our St. Patrick's Day Stations - can't wait - a little late but that's ok! :)

Word Study

I just added a 30 minute Word Study time to my schedule.  I tried it out twice last week and the plan is to keep it.  I put the students into three groups with different activities at each table.  I was at one table, my assistant was at another and they were all alone at the third.

So here are the activities we did on Tuesday:
My Table-

This is a spin and write activity that I made with our "spelling" words.  They are just sight words.  The students have to spin and then figure out where to put the letter in the boxes.  It was fun to see their brains trying to plan ahead where letters should go.

My assistant's table:

The students played concentration with the same words.

Independent table:

At this table the kids had to pick words off the word wall and make them with magnetic letters.  Then they were allowed to draw them on the dry erase boards.

I did word study stations again on Thursday and did 3 different activities.  I forgot to take pictures - opps!  But here's what I did...

My table we played a CVCe game from non other than DeeDee Wills.

Star Wars CVCe Memory Match and Darth Vader Game!

The kids absolutely love this!!!  Mostly because it was Star Wars!

At my assistant's table the kids chose sight words and wrote in various materials - highlighters, markers, crayons etc.

At the independent table they used a new project of mine - A beginning sounds clothespin game.

Clothespin Match - Beginning Sounds - A to ZClothespin Match - Beginning Sounds - A to Z

The kids had to look at the pictures, figure out the beginning sound and then attach a clothespin.  Finally they had to ask a partner to check their work before they could go to the next card.  It was a great review activity but I need to make something harder.

What do you do for word study in your classroom that you like?!?

A week of Seuss

We finished our week of Read Across America!!!  We had fun projects and fun food for lots of books.

My lovely assistant made a special snack everyday for the kiddos.  We had Cat in the Hat Kabobs, Green Eggs and Ham Cookies, Red fish, Blue Fish cupcakes, and colored goldfish.

We also made some adorable projects.  Here is my favorite!!!  The Lorax!

I'm going to working hard on finishing up some cool literacy and math stations for St. Patrick's Day.  I'm also in the proecess of making a mini-unit for Rhyming Dust Bunnies.  We are going to be using it as our shared reading next week!
